Calculation method

For n affordable independent boxes and target probability p, the chance of a target is 1 − (1 − p)^n. When stopping at the first target, expected boxes used are [1 − (1 − p)^n] / p. At p = 0, all n boxes are used. A lower average spend does not mean the target is guaranteed or that you should buy.

Worked example: budget 100, box cost 15, fixed costs 10, confirmed quote 80 and a 5% target chance permit 6 boxes. Maximum spend is 100; the target chance is 26.49%, with a 73.51% chance of no target.

These models do not describe sealed no-repeat cases, POP NOW hints or changing probabilities. Unknown rates should stay unknown. Never copy a rate from another brand or release.
