Importing an adult doll into United Kingdom

General information for adult buyers, not legal advice. Rules change — verify current requirements with United Kingdom customs before ordering.

Status: We found no UK provision restricting adult-form dolls, and CPS guidance is framed entirely around childlike ones. Treat that as “no prohibition identified” rather than as affirmative permission — the border route runs through obscenity law, not a product list.

Tax and duty

We were not able to verify current UK import VAT mechanics, thresholds or the commodity code for this category to the standard this page requires, so we are not publishing figures. Check the current position on gov.uk before ordering. What we can say is that the German equivalent changed materially in July 2026, so any figure you find in an older guide deserves suspicion.

What customs actually does

Border Force has referred roughly 230 suspected childlike dolls to police since September 2016. Reported prosecutions share a pattern worth understanding: a parcel from Hong Kong or China is intercepted at an airport, frequently declared as a “mannequin”, and the doll charge is then paired with indecent-images offences after devices are examined. Sentences have ranged from suspended terms to two years eight months.

Prohibited regardless of anything else

There is no offence of simple possession in England and Wales. Importation is charged as knowingly acquiring possession of goods subject to a prohibition on importing indecent or obscene articles, under s. 42 of the Customs Consolidation Act 1876 together with s. 170(1)(a) of the Customs and Excise Management Act 1979. The CPS test asks whether the doll was created for sexual use and has sufficient characteristics of a child that it is plainly to be looked at and used for that childlike appearance. <strong>One open thread:</strong> a Child-like Sexual Abuse Dolls (Offences) Bill exists before Parliament and we could not establish its current status, so a dedicated possession offence may now exist or be imminent. Check before relying on the possession position.

DollScout exclusively covers adult-form products. We refuse to review, link to, or earn commission on any product with a childlike appearance, and we drop vendors that stock them.

Practical notes for buyers

  • Mis-declaring a doll as a “mannequin” is the recurring fact pattern in UK prosecutions, and it aggravates rather than helps. Declare accurately.
  • A seizure triggers a wider search. In nearly every reported case the doll charge arrived alongside indecent-images charges found on devices.

How we sourced this — and what we could not confirm

This page is built from government, customs and court sources, linked at the bottom. We could not open every primary statute directly, so treat section numbers and rates as a starting point for your own check rather than the last word. Not verified here: UK import VAT rates and thresholds, the commodity code, and the current status of the Child-like Sexual Abuse Dolls (Offences) Bill. Customs rules and criminal statutes both change; the date on a source matters. If you find something here that is out of date or wrong, tell us and we will correct it and say so — that is the standard we hold vendors to, so it applies to us first.

Whatever your destination: the shipping and privacy guide covers what the crate looks like, what your card statement says, and what to do if a shipment arrives damaged. The True Cost Calculator folds import tax into your real first-year total.
