Importing an adult doll into Singapore
Tax and duty
GST is 9%, raised from 8% on 1 January 2024. Singapore levies customs duty on only four categories — liquor, tobacco, motor vehicles and petroleum — so a doll attracts no duty. The low-value goods threshold is S$400 CIF for goods arriving by air or post. A common misstatement is that the S$400 relief was simply removed in 2023; what actually happened is narrower. From 1 January 2023 the Overseas Vendor Registration regime was extended to low-value goods, so a GST-registered overseas vendor charges 9% at checkout, while import GST relief at the border still applies below S$400 where the supplier is not so registered. Goods above S$400 have always been assessed at the border. A full-size doll exceeds S$400, so the practical rule is 9% GST at the border and no duty.
What customs actually does
We found no enforcement case against an adult-form doll. The exposure is officer discretion rather than a listed prohibition, which puts the risk somewhere between low and moderate.
Prohibited regardless of anything else
Prohibited. Law firm sources cite a Penal Code provision introduced by the Criminal Law Reform Act 2019 prohibiting possession, sale and importation of child sex dolls, defined as anatomically accurate dolls resembling a person under 16 and designed for sexual purposes. We could not open the statute to confirm the section number, so we cite the prohibition rather than a number.

Practical notes for buyers
- The effective age gate here is 21, not 18. Selling or distributing an obscene object to a person under 21 is a separate offence, even though contractual majority is 18.
- Do not import for resale. That falls squarely inside the purpose element that makes section 292 bite.
