Scope and limits

Up to 8 still JPEG, PNG or WebP images; 20 MiB each, 50 MiB total, 20 megapixels each. No GIF, HEIC, SVG or animation. Output is limited to 4096 × 4096 pixels and never enlarged.

How this tool works

The browser decodes and redraws each image, preserving proportions. JPEG uses a white background for transparency. PNG ignores the quality setting. Re-encoding can change colours or increase file size; this is not a print-quality or metadata-erasure guarantee.

A reproducible example

A 1500 × 1000 image fitted within 1000 × 1000 becomes 1000 × 667. The original stays unchanged. The interactive sample measures its actual exported size.

Common questions

Does compression always make an image smaller?

No. Output size depends on the source, chosen format, dimensions and browser encoder. The result shows both byte counts, including an increase when the output is larger.

Are transparent images supported?

PNG and WebP can preserve transparency. JPEG cannot; transparent pixels are placed on a white background. Animated files are rejected.
