# How to review PDF reading order

Text extraction order is not proof of screen-reader reading order. PDF structure tags, text content order and the viewer can affect the reading experience.

Start with a simple page, then test a multi-column page, a table and any form. Listen to the full reading sequence and check keyboard focus separately.

Compare what you hear with the intended meaning. Watch for footnotes inserted mid-sentence, unrelated columns interleaved and form labels separated from their controls.

Fix the source or use a PDF remediation editor. Export a new version and repeat the checks. Use text comparison to find content changes, then do the visual and assistive-technology review again.
